The Hot White Heist podcast tells a fictional story that is improbable, outrageous, and hilarious. The LGBTQ-themed show features queer characters and cast members, and a crazy mission. As per the title, this is about a bank heist. But it's not the kind of bank with money in it. Instead, the ensemble is trying to rob a sperm bank. This depository holds genetic material from many famous politicians.
Listeners may start laughing right from the beginning of Hot White Heist. The podcast's theme song sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. But it also winks at the podcast's ridiculous premise. “It's like some disgusting conspiracy theory from Reddit,” the song jokes.
Saturday Night Live comedian Bowen Yang plays Jude (Judy) Fink, a New York City tarot card reader. Jude's aunt, Kate, played by Cynthia Nixon, offers him the opportunity to lead this heist. She is in a lesbian cult called Coalition of Lesbians Intent on Taking Over. (The initials spell out one of the many NSFW jokes on this podcast.) Jude then recruits what Vox calls the “Avengers of LGBTQ performers.” Jane Lynch, Abbi Jacobson, Cheyenne Jackson, and Margaret Cho add to the comedy in Hot White Heist.
Why there's a sperm bank to rob in the first place, one can only guess. It could be for the preservation of humanity. Or for the creation of a future genius who will solve the mysteries of the universe. Whatever the reasons may be, the mere existence of the sperm bank has got people whispering. Alan Cumming produces this podcast and also voices a character. Hot White Heist calls for a great deal of suspension of disbelief and a solid queer cast that can pull it all off. The show may keep listeners laughing through all six episodes.
