Best to the Nest with Margery & Elizabeth

myTalk 107.1 | Hubbard Radio

When Elizabeth Ries and Margery Punnett hosted a myTalk 107.1 radio show together, they joked that their most personal conversations happened during the commercial breaks. During one of these pauses, Margery shared an important family principle: bringing your best self to your home. Being an urban farmer with a flock of chickens, Elizabeth quipped, "Bring your best to the nest!" The outside world shouldn't get the smiling happy version of you while your family gets the crabby and exhausted one. On "Best To The Nest," Margery & Elizabeth explore the simple concept of creating strong, comforting, beautiful nests that prepare us to fly. read less

Our Editor's Take

Best to the Nest with Margery & Elizabeth is a nurturing podcast about family life. It speaks to listeners where home life and family meet personal well-being. The central theme of the podcast is creating a safe and caring home environment.

Cohost Elizabeth Ries is a Minneapolis TV show host. She is also an urban farmer. Former television producer Margery Punnett joins her, offering her expertise on home living. The two share tips for creating a comfortable living space for the family. This podcast answers the question of what it means for someone to bring their "best self" to the home.

Best to the Nest conversations include everything from home security to food sensitivities. One episode focuses on boundaries and monitoring children's online behavior. Another talks about the importance of a joyful funeral. While these subjects may not seem related, they share common threads that lead back to home life. Each episode prepares individuals and families to thrive in the outside world.

The multifaceted approach to the concept of "home" allows Best to the Nest to be broad. The hosts aspire way beyond interior decorating or home organization. They focus on creating a space that reflects and nurtures the well-being of its inhabitants. As a result, the series can take a holistic approach to the home's health.

This podcast's themes include family dynamics and personal wellness. Elizabeth's insight into urban farming and nutritional wisdom is captivating. Through relatable and practical tips for home-making, Margery's input becomes indispensable. Monthly features include an episode on what to read, watch, and listen to.

This show is uplifting and positive. Listeners may appreciate the abundance of insightful material each episode presents.

I asked my son to write the obituary for his father, and so now, I share it with you.   Ian Case Punnett died on December 22, 2023.   Ian hosted weekends on the nationally syndicated show Coast to Coast with Ian Punnett, as well as local shows in the Twin Cities, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, and the Quad-Cities over his lengthy radio career.    He received his Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and went on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy in Journalism and Mass Communication from Arizona State University. He was ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Church and served in that role for many years, though to his friends and family (and frankly anyone with his phone number), his ministry was always available.    Ian was inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasting Hall of Fame in October 2023. For the last five years, Ian taught journalism at Kansas State University and ran the college radio station there. He took great pride in his student-staff and in Wildcat 91.9. In 2023, Wildcat 91.9 was named one of best college radio stations in the country by The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.   He was a writer and authored several books including How to Pray When You Are Pissed at God, How Millennials Can Lead Us Out of the Mess We’re In: A Jew, a Muslim, and a Christian Share Leadership Lessons from the Life of Moses, and A Black Night for the Bluegrass Belle. In addition, Routledge Press published his dissertation, Toward a Theory of True Crime Narratives. Children know him as the author of Dizzy the Mutt with the Propeller Butt and Jackula the Vampire Dog.   Ian was a caring, intelligent, and generous man. He never hesitated to extend a hand to those in need or give his time to those in suffering. His deep Christian piety was matched by genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for all forms of faith. He always stood up for a just cause and was fearless in facing all obstacles. He was endlessly creative and never missed an opportunity for a funny bit. He was a loyal friend, a loving husband and excellent father.    Best to the Nest is our podcast all about creating strong, comfortable, beautiful nests that prepare us to fly.  Learn more about your ad choices.
