Lenard McKelvey calls himself “the Ruler of Rubbing People the Wrong Way.” Rolling Stone magazine calls him “the hip-hop Howard Stern.” And the rest of the world calls him by his showbiz name, Charlamagne Tha God. This radio legend is now the host of Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.
After years of radio success, Charlamagne broke through to television in 2021. Season one of Tha God's Honest Truth aired weekly on Comedy Central and as a podcast. For season two, the Black Effect (Charlamagne's podcast network) and Comedy Central decided a pivot was in order. A July 2022 press release announced the show's new name and format. It is now known as Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.
Charlamagne acknowledged that past episodes of the show dwelled on problems. Season two will focus on solutions. Hell of a Week still tackles the week's biggest stories in popular culture and politics. But instead of hosting solo, Charlamagne will mix it up with a panel.
Charlamagne isn't afraid to bring all kinds of guests into the conversation. He welcomes folks of all political persuasions. Celebs from all corners of the entertainment world can come on board, too. And if season one is any indicator, Hell of a Week will boast some serious star power. Guests on Tha God's Honest Truth included Kevin Hart, Ed Sheeran, and Vice President Kamala Harris. It'll be hard for guests to solve all the world's problems in only 20 to 30 minutes a week. But with Charlamagne's uncompromising brashness leading the way, it'll be fun to see them try. The podcast version of Hell of a Week features extended content, longer-form interviews, and bonus episodes. The show is executive produced by both Charlamagne Tha God and Stephen Colbert.
