Our Editor's Take

One of America's most famous fictional news anchors, Ron Burgundy, is back with his own podcast. In The Rob Burgundy Podcast, the host's chaotic charm meets real-world experts and celebrities. Abs are sure to get a workout from the contagious humor.

Listeners will delight as Ron and his cohost Carolina chat with actor Peter Dinklage about his favorite poems. They can then join in on a guided meditation session with teacher and author Deepak Chopra. Then listen as hosts discuss the future of humanity. Listeners can also hear Drag Race superstar RuPaul recount the top 10 women of all time. This podcast is as unpredictable as it is entertaining.

The character of Ron Burgundy was first brought to life by Will Farrell. He introduced this character in the 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. He stars alongside Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn, and Christina Applegate. They play infamous characters, including Brick Tamland, Brian Fontana, and Veronica Corningstone. The movie depicts Burgundy's struggle due to his new colleague's sudden success. Thus begins a bitter yet hilarious feud between the two. Since then, Farrell's newsman and his San Diego news team have starred in two more movies. Those movies were Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie, and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

The podcast launched in February 2019. Ferrell sees the medium as an opportunity to revive the famous character in a new setting. The comedian told Inside Radio how much he enjoyed returning to this previous role. Ferrell took it as an opportunity to explore premises more conducive to listening. "It was a great chance to ... fall back on my sketch roots while integrating guests.”

The first two seasons proved to be extremely successful. Ferrell has since announced the launch of his broadcasting network. Big Money Players Network is a collaboration with iHeartMedia. The initiative is supporting other podcasting comedians.
